Kate Bush in 250 words (ish)
Kate bush is an English singer, dancer, songwriter and musician from Bexleyheath in Kent. Her family had a background in the creative arts and this inspired her to teach herself piano and write songs at the age of 11.
She has released 10 studio albums, 39 music videos and 33 singles. In the UK, Bush has had 3 no.1 albums including ‘Never For Ever’ (1980) and ‘Hounds of Love’ (1985). She released her last album in 2019 which reached no.18 on the UK charts.
Bush had several singles in the top 10 UK singles charts including ‘Man with the Child in his Eyes’ (1978) which reached no.6, ‘Babooshka’ (1980) reached no.5 and ‘Running up that Hill’ (1985) reached no.3.
Bush released her debut album in 1978 when she was 19, all the songs on the album were written by Bush, some from when was aged 13. ‘The Kick Inside’ contained her only UK no.1 single ‘Wuthering Heights’ and the album peaked at no.3 on the UK album charts.
Kate Bush has been nominated and won several awards. In 1979 she won Best International Single for ‘Wuthering Heights’ and the NME award for the Best Female Singer. She was nominated for 3 Grammy Awards, 13 Brit Awards, 2 MTV Video Music Awards, 3 Progressive Music awards and won 2 Ivor Novello Awards, 1 NME Award and 1 Brit Award.
Musicians and performers like Ellie Goulding, Adele, Coldplay, Kate Nash, Beverley Craven and The Divine Comedy have all been inspired by Kate Bush’s music, 2014 comeback and imagery.
